The scary thing is that he seems to be serious. (HT: Victor Reppert)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Update (4.12.06):<\/span> There&#8217;s been a lot of discussion in the blogosphere over this incident and over whether Dr. Pianka actually meant to <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">advocate <\/span>using ebola to this the world&#8217;s population (as Forrest Mims, the author of the article linked to above concludes) or whether he just meant to say that <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">it would be a good thing<\/span> if ebola wiped out 90% of the human race. That may be a somewhat fine distinction, though. Here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geocities.com\/tetrahedronomega\/pianka-mims.html\">one source<\/a> that defends Mims&#8217; interpretation. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pandasthumb.org\/archives\/2006\/04\/texas_academy_o.html\">Here&#8217;s another<\/a> that disputes it.
