Recent Discussion of Open Theism and Intelligent Design

By | July 17, 2008

Over at Bill Dembski’s blog, Uncommon Descent, I recently got into an extended discussion on the relation of intelligent design and open theism (short answer – neither entails anything regarding the other). For those who might be interested, here’s the link. (The initial comment on open theism that prompted my reply occurs near the end of the original post.)

Brave of you to venture into such waters, Alan! I read a few of your comments, and thought you did rather nicely.

It’s amazing to me how badly open theism is generally understood — 9 times out of 10, what someone thinks is incompatible with open theism turns out to be perfectly compatible. I think what happens is that folks think open theism is a much more robust view than it actually is. Anyhow, if there’s one thing I know, it’s that the view will need some capable — and patient! — apologists for some time to come.
